So This Is Iceland
Tourism is booming in Iceland and there are many good reasons why. You can hike around volcanoes, ride an Icelandic pony, go river rafting, whale watching, or visit an ice cave. Yes, there are so many things to do. However, during our four days in Iceland we did almost none of them.
Our main focus during our time in Reykjavik was trying to adapt our sleep patterns. Thipp and I have both travelled enough to have a variety of strategies for quickly adjusting to new time zones. None of these strategies were of much use with a three year-old. Adding to the challenge was that our flight arrived at 6:30 am local time, which was 11:30 pm Vancouver time. Oh yes, and there was also about 20 hours of light each day.
The first couple of days we kept vampire hours, sleeping during the day and exploring the streets of Reykjavik in the evening. When Alex would awake from his "nap" somewhere between 2:00-3:00 am, he and I would watch videos together. We were gradually adapting our body clocks, so it was too bad that we had to get up early yesterday before 4:00 am to catch our flight to Denmark.
We did manage one day trip out of Reykjavik, renting a car to drive the Golden Circle. This included stops at Pingvellir National Park, Geysir, and Gullfoss (Golden Falls). Pingvellir and Gullfoss were quite spectacular, while Geysir offered great shopping opportunities. Our trip was unintentionally extended due to a wrong turn, so our Golden Circle was more like a Golden Q.
Over-all, we quite enjoyed our short stay in Iceland. Reykjavik is a nice place and our Golden Circle drive was memorable. Alex's favourite part was visiting one of the local swimming pools. Indeed, we would like to visit Iceland again one day, as we've heard that are many things to do.

Ian, hope you're having a really good time in Europe. Really sounds rough adjusting to the time change with a young baby. I just stayed up all night on the red-eye and then forced myself into it. Here are my pics from my 10-day trip. The route I took is shown in the first photo. This is a Facebook album, but even if you don't have Facebook, you can still look through it. Was going to e-mail you, but I'm not sure what address to use. You can answer me at scott.weston@bchydro.com if you feel so inclined. Cheers!
