A Change In Course
The first four weeks of our trip pretty much followed our initial plan - Iceland, Denmark, the Czech Republic and Austria. However, it didn't take long until we started planning a change in our future course.
First, we learned that changing homes on a regular basis was a grind on us for many reasons. Therefore, longer stays at each new location would be preferable. Consequently, we decided to cut-out Switzerland and the Alps.
Second, we learned that the Italian school summer holidays don't end until mid-September so many Italian tourist destinations would be busy until then. Thus, it made sense for us to defer our traveling to Italy.
This is how we ended-up in Croatia. We had originally thought that we would visit Croatia, but not until October. It was a long and scenic train trip that took us from Vienna through Austria and Slovenia before finally arriving at Zagreb. We didn't have huge expectations for Zagreb and it wasn't part of our original itinerary, but we stayed for three nights in order to reduce our travel lag. By the time we departed we wished we had more time to spend there. Such are the joys of travel when you don't always stick to the plan.
